Hannan Khan Open to co-op
Portrait of Hannan Khan, UX designer

About me

I'm Hannan, a UX Designer and Researcher studying at Wilfrid Laurier University. I like taking complicated problems and turning them into experiences that feel simple, accessible, and actually useful to the people using them.

Why I do this

My aunt Isma is the reason I ended up in UX. She lives with a rare eye disability, and watching her struggle with everyday apps and websites that just weren't built with her in mind made me realize how much design actually matters.

That stayed with me. Now whenever I sit down to design something, I think about Isma first. If she can use it comfortably and without frustration, I'm on the right track.

"Good design is invisible. Bad design is a barrier."

What I focus on

  • AccessibilityMaking sure every design works for everyone, regardless of their abilities. This one is personal to me.
  • SimplicityStripping away the noise to create experiences that are clear and intuitive without needing an explanation.
  • User experienceUnderstanding real people through research and designing solutions that actually solve the right problem.

My design approach

The same four steps, whether it's a client playbook or an Arduino box.

Understand

Research the people and the problem first. Interviews, surveys, usability tests, whatever actually gets me talking to real users.

Explore

Generate and compare different solutions before committing, so the first idea isn't automatically the one that ships.

Design

Turn ideas into interfaces people can actually use. Wireframes, prototypes, or a physical build, whichever fits what's being made.

Test and improve

Put it in front of real people again before calling it done, and refine based on what actually breaks.

My impact

Real numbers, not estimates.

Beyond design

When I'm not designing, I'm usually training. Kickboxing and Muay Thai most evenings, or cricket for Laurier Brantford. The rest of my time goes into running the Pakistani Student Association, which turns out to be its own kind of design work: figuring out what a community actually needs and building the events and materials to match.

Let's create something meaningful

I'm always interested in connecting, collaborating, and learning from new opportunities. Let's connect.
